The ongoing rains in Karamoja Region have brought more happiness to the farmers but also has hindered some other aspects of life especially in places where there are bad roads in the different communities of Karamoja.

Karenga as one of the new districts in Karamoja has faced some challenges so far, given the fact that most roads within the district are not yet upgraded to better standards of first class gravel or asphaltic concrete.

On the 27th August 2022, one of the NGOs who was supposed to distribute food in Kawalakol village, Kawalakol Sub County, Karenga district to about 106 beneficiaries was delayed due to the rains that fell through in the night several times rendering the roads bad for vehicle movements.

Food to be distributed packed along the road to reduce weight on the vehicle.

Also, there was delay in service delivery including medical stores to Kawalakol Health Centre II that were as well stuck on the muddy roads.

According to one of the staff of the NGO who requested for anonymity, there is  need for the District to work on several roads mostly the access roads to the communities they serve for easy service delivery to the furthest villages from the headquarters.

“We are worried and not sure if the necessary services can reach us in this community if the road is not graded and graveled, because it is the only access road that our community members use to go to Karenga District Town to access a number of services” One of the community members who is a beneficiary said.

A trader only identified as Akol as well was not happy since the road delayed them from reaching the market place in time thus reducing their revenues though paying the taxes to the government.

“Our government must look at us as people who need improved services, we pay taxes as traders but where we trade is not put right for us to enjoy the services”, Akol stated.
